Hairy Hulls in the Offing

Intriguing... wonder how this will hold up to the gradual accretion of crud...

Re: Hairy hulls in the offing?

Interesting, but one must wonder how much drag the "hairy" surface creates on its own?

They can use the hairs for speed transducers too!

"Wings are giant sensors that tell bats about the flow of air around their bodies, helping them to execute sharp manoeuvres without crashing.
The wings’ ability to monitor airflow depends on tiny hairs that cover their surfaces. "

I can really see having a hairy hull.

The Admiral constantly complaining about shaving the hull..

Hull shaving service?

Sometimes I wonder if we do the right thing by coating our boats with poisonous paint.

As we do it now a slime first grows, then some sort of weed that the fish turn their noses up at, but which covers the poison so that larger marine critters can get a foothold, then its all downhill from there.

I mean if we could actually encourage the right sort of weed to grow the local fish might keep it trimmed...
