Disheartening
So,
I have a mid 70’s Tiwanese boat with all the usual inherant problems, wet core, delaminated bulkheads etc etc. Rather than dicker around in the slip Ive had the boat moved to the front yard and built myself a bow roofed shed to cover it while I fix the decks and paint it.
I wasnt counting on the local authorities, the shed is a temporary structure, not permanantly fixed to the ground, is safe and if anything over constructed. Its built in the tree line and although visible from the street is behind a 6ft fence. It was going to be removed when the job was finished in the summer.
Apparently its not allowed, no way pull it down within the next 14 days.
As I say disheartening...

Re: Disheartening
Beautiful shed, sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you looked into what it would take to get a permit for it?

Re: Disheartening
Agree, nice shed.
Is the problem that you can see it over the fence? Would a botanical fence work to hide it?

Re: Disheartening
I learned a long time ago to read the actual laws myself. Many are misinterpreted by the enforcers and the lawmakers themselves. A single word or phrase can make all the difference.

Re: Disheartening
I have the same legal regulations...I would need a zoning variance to build such a structure. I would suggest talking to your local people who approached you , and ask what it would take to make it "legal", and at the same time, ask for a stay of removal until you can get approval. Show an attempt to make things right and they might cut you some slack in the meantime.

Re: Disheartening
I do not understand laws that restrict such a nice shed, but I live in rural Alabama. I would try to "permit" it or what ever before I removed it. I like that design and I'm going to copy it.

Re: Disheartening
I like that shed design too. Very nice design.
Was it a kit?
Or your original design?
Or from plans on the net?
Also, since you are doing extensive repairs, I think documenting the work, with many photos. and then starting a thread here in the right focused Forum and focused on the structural fixes, would be interesting to other CF Members.
Here is the sub forum I recommend for locating your thread.
Construction, Maintenance & Refit - Cruisers & Sailing Forums
For example, MINARET had a very popular and helpful thread showing the extensive work he did on his boat.

Re: Disheartening
the shed design looks to be what is called a Stimson Shed....easy to build, extremely strong, and lightweight.
This guy does a great writeup, and videos...
The bow roof shed made of white pine and greenhouse plastic

Looks like a tent to me, the same kind the zoning regulators give out under existing building codes for Christmas Tree sales, Fireworks and Revivals. Under most building codes, they can issue you a permit for up to 90 or 180 days, depending upon which State you are in

Adamaris:
You might try applying for a variance with a time limit on it. Spend some time being friendly to the folks at the council (or whatever they call it), and see if you can work towards a compromise. I have found it helps to really explain what the problems are, both the likely delays with the repairs and the financial realities. Ultimately, in a way, it is not the "government" who can help you, it is the clerk with whom you deal that mentions it to the boss; and that one can really help, or not, depending on how your tale grabs them. Which is why your presentation of the issues is REALLY important.

What She Said.
In cases like these, there really is no "gubermint"'; it's a person(s) you are dealing with.
First impressions, Rapport and Sincerity go miles - says he who has negotiated a couple large settlements with the IRS.

If it is legal to do work on your boat in that location the cover is not a structure but a device to capture any dust or fumes from paint. It is an environmental protection device. You are merely a good citizen caring about the surrounding neighbourhood. sell it to the local authority and request any permit that might be necessary as you did not believe anything was necessary considering its purpose.. Would a sun awning with side curtains require any permit.
