Re: Disheartening

Try to find out if someone has made a complaint about it; always more difficult if someone (neighbour etc) has lodged an objection. If no complaint (except by the local authority), then try to find out was IS allowed in order to complete your project.

Also find out what the appeal process is; maybe it can be drawn out for months...

Would a sun awning with side curtains require any permit.
Hahaha, DO NOT Pull the environmental card!! You’ll end up scaring someone and next thing you know you’ll be hiring an abatement company wandering around your yard in hazmat suits testing your boat for lead, mold, absestos among other things before the city will lift the contaminated site designation all in the name of ‘public safety’.

Agreed tent or maybe a greenhouse...looks like the sheathing is just clear plastic tarp over a frame. While it looks nice now, I've seen similar 6 months on where the tarp is torn and looks pretty horrible. The OP may stay on it but the inspectors don't know that and if they play favorites, it can come back to bite them.

What options the OP has depends greatly on what rules he is in violation of. It might simply be $50 and filling out a permit application or it may be that storing and repairing a boat in a residential area is not allowed or some other variation on the theme.

As others have said, go down and chat with the inspector...but try your best to stay happy and upbeat. If you go in fire & brimstone, expect him to find a couple other things that are violations.

Re: Disheartening

I built a 20 X 30 open front storage building, 12' opening to get a forklift in and out. The local inspector came out and put a stop work "red tag" on the building. That was on a Friday the building was finished the following Sunday and the whole thing took place 30 years ago. It's still standing! Find out what they're going to do!
