Bottom Paint.

Good Day All,

We are coming up to launch on a 60ft sailing catamaran.

The build company seems to be skimping on bottom paint for whatever reason.

I understand that bronze can be left without antifoul but surely everything else should be painted solidly without the smallest bit of caulk or plastic skin fitting showing through.

Am I correct in requesting that everything, even the bronze be painted?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Best

Re: Bottom Paint.

hopefully they have used bronze and not brass skinfittings!

generally every thing is coated with 2-3 coats of anti fouling, ideally with a bit extra on high wear areas, skin fittings generally wether plastic or bronze should first have a primer of epoxy barrier coat before the anti fouling to improve adhesion.

Re: Bottom Paint.

like in the navy, with anti fouling the motto is......"If it moves salute it,if it don't,paint it!"

Re: Bottom Paint.

Since this is a new boat, have them do at least two full coats of bottom paint and an extra coat of paint on the bows and the leading edges of the keels if you have them.

You didn't mention anything about the barrier coat, so I assume you were happy with that.
