Best Roller for 105 Epoxy on Bottom

Hello, Any thoughts on the best rollers for unthickened West Systems on glass to prep for barrier coat?

I ordered a bunch if the candy stripe rollers as that's what Minaret uses. A guy at the yard suggested West 800 foam rollers.

Any thoughts on pros/cons.


I am planning to do this job Saturday. Still debating troweling on 407 to fair or just stick with straight 105. I did a practice spot the other day, one spot with 3 coats of 105, one with two coats 105 and one trowel of 407. I sanded today and felt the 105 patch came out better. I felt the only way to get it fair was to sand of all the 407!!! probably not a great troweler

Just think, on the 407 patch you sanded off all the 407, leaving two full coats of epoxy and doing all your sanding in relatively easy to sand filler.

On the straight resin patch, you have probably sanded the majority off, leaving very little millage, and doing all your sanding in rock hard neat resin.


This is why I usually do a double pass with the 407, catching a chemical bond. It gives you enough material to sand fair without removing any of the precious two coats of neat resin.


Your trowel work was not bad, you are just mixing a bit thick. Mix to mayo consistency, or just a bit thinner, so it flows out like paint. It also provides a superior barrier and is less susceptible to moisture intrusion and failure when mixed this way. But it is a bit harder to sand.

OK, Thanks, It was 2:00 AM and I just couldn't stay up for the last 407. I also go the mix too thick when I tried it, that is the key as you said.
