I have the vacuum equipment. This is the Joewoodworker setup with a Robinair 15500 two stage pump.

I also have a Gast venturi vacuum generator as a backup.

I probably would buy, rent or borrow a second pump to have on hand as a backup. I've made a few small parts over the years so I'm not unfamiliar with the process but scaling it up is a bit of a challenge.

Thanks for the tip on the plastic sheeting. I'll see what I can find. I plan to do a few tests this winter to see what alternative consumables I can get that'll work for me.

It's nice to be able to work in a sterile lab under controlled conditions. Sometimes that's not possible as in my case. I once did a keel repair on a friends boat after he had an encounter with some rocks. I didn't have any bagging film so I used, of all things, a shower curtain liner! It actually worked perfectly.

I've scoured the Noah's site and have bought some materials from them for our project. Fortunately, for us, we're close to a border crossing with NY so we can skip over there to pick stuff up. I can buy direct from companies like Airtech direct and save a ton of money.

My first infusion real project was to make a cover for our sump pump. The cats kept batting stuff in the hole clogging up the pump intake. I had tinkered with infusion before so this wasn't really my first attempt.

1" blue styrofoam core, 1 layer of 1708 on each side. No flow media. Peelply on the top. Pulled near full vacuum 29"+ to debulk. Polymer Composites ULV infusion epoxy.

Laid up, pulling vacuum from the center and feeding resin from the perimeter.

Part turned out near perfect. A few minor dry spots on the bottom because I didn't perforate the core. Replicated the process for the second half of the circle.

Had a bit of race tracking around the outside where the cloth & film had bridged over the edge of the foam. Other than that it's good and strong.

I've gotten a lot of help from the boat building forums and will further refine my plan for next spring. I'm leaning towards doing the box keel first then the transom, bottom & sides later.

Ok, now before you jump down my back about the anti-fouling on the bottom I just want to say I contacted the mfgr and told them what it was I intended to do. They said it will be fine. I'll have to abrade it with a scotchbrite pad & recoat before it goes in the water. I did my homework on that point.[/rant]

The boat is horribly out of level from 3 yrs of sitting on cement blocks. I'll mark the waterline etc. once it's flipped and re-leveled.

Started rigging up the Gin Pole. I updated our blog but to keep it short here it is in a nutshell.

6 X 6 to transfer weight to the ground. Rigging is almost all 1/2" hardware. Lifting power comes from a 2500lb 12V winch with 1/4" cable. Dragging the rolling frame sideways will be with a small hand winch like you find on a trailer.

I used 1/2" u-bolts. The upper one is for the load. The lower one is for the ratchet straps that'll hold the pole in place.

Gin Pole went up a lot easier than I thought it would.

Used the electric winch I rigged into the ride of the shed to lift it into place. I thought it might be a two man job but managed it on my own. Just kept running from side to side as I lifted it a few feet at a time. Worked flawlessly.

Installed the 2500 lb winch on the Gin Pole. Batteries for the remote were DOA so had to go running around for them as well as replacing the bench vise I broke.

Carpal tunnel is acting up. Might have to slow down a bit for a day or two.

I was running over the flipping scenario in my head over and over again last night, watching vids on Youtube, the animation I made and looking at a few blog sites when I realized I missed something really important. It took awhile but I figured it out.

Rick: Do you have enough hands going to be standing around while your roll over rig does it's thing? They'd be there just to clap at the end of course, nothing could go possibly go wrong. Just a thought, only 6 hrs away.
