Yanmar 3HMF aux pulley and or Harmonic balancer?

I am repowering with a Yanmar 3 HMF motor. My installation puts the front of the motor near a bulkhead. The motor came with a heavy auxillary pulley bolted onto to the crank pulley. It sticks out about four inches. My install would be a whole lot easier if I removed this pulley, but I'm not sure if it is needed to somehow balance things out. Anyone familar with this motor and the extra pulley?
