(W)Xtide harmonic constants

Hello,

I've been reading a lot about this topic and I found especially interesting this thread: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...cpn-35083.html

I would like to thank Ptizef the great work he did about this topic in Spain(which is my country) and Europe in general. The only problem is that I would like to access the data with Xtide. In order to do that I need the HARMONICS to be a .tdc file. I tried with build_tide_db on Linux put it says: Error creating data base file.

I have congen in my computer and I guess Pierre genereted this file using congen. Do you know how I could transform this HARMONICS file to a tcd file so i could read it with Xtide?

Re: (W)Xtide harmonic constants

I think that tcd-utils is your best bet, but probably quite a lot of problems getting there. I compiled and tried "build_tide_db", some output below
Code:
 $ build_tide_db
tcd-utils 20120115
Usage: build_tide_db output_tcd_filename input_master_harm [input_child_harm...] [input_xml...] [input_nvo...]
thomas@escape2:~/OpenCPN_Conf/UserTCData/France $ build_tide_db france.tcd HARMONIC HARMONIC.IDX

Creating TCD file from HARMONIC

Processing file HARMONIC
build_tide_db.c line 112: failed assertion: string[0] == '#'

This program (build_tide_db) was intended to be used as a throwaway migration
utility. As such, it was never made robust for arbitrary input. To maximize
your chances of success, copy the formatting of the legacy harmonics file
available from http://www.flaterco.com/xtide/files.html as closely as
possible. Even blank lines and comments matter.
Aborted (core dumped)
Well...you get the gist. I'm not even sure that my command line above is correct.

Re: (W)Xtide harmonic constants

Yeah i get the same output, the command you tried is correct, but usually you don't need the HARMONIC.IDX in order to generate the .tcd, i tried both with the same result...I tried to modify build_tide_db to debug and i found the line in which the problem is, but it seems to be a lot of small differences with the format that build_tide_db needs.

Basically I want to use this file in Xtide because I can access it from command line in order to automate some processes. So if you know another program which can read this file from comand line, it would be ok for me aswell. Maybe even wXtide but i think it doesn't have command line operations.

Than you!

Anybody knows where the site GEZEITEN FISCH 2012 | Angeln an der Nordseekste <(((>< gets its data from?
It seems to be more specific than any Harmonics I have seen before.

Re: (W)Xtide harmonic constants

...if you don't mind running Wine in Linux, you can use WxTide- IT can use the same kinds of files OpenCPN uses-plain text HARMONIC and Harmonic.idx's....but they needn't have those specific ("Hamonic") names. Wxtide uses a config file you can edit to load various tide sets. It's in the documentation...
