Yanmar 3HM35F Fuel Injection Pump Removal HELP!

Hi, am new to this forum but would really appreciate some pointers on above....two of above engines in a Catamaran and after 2 year lay up, restarting them seems to need the removal of the Fuel Injection Pumps for servicing. However, the Fuel Control Racks appear jammed in a position which is preventing the pumps being lifted out.....Engines reverse mounted and access is difficult...can anyone advise how to get the pumps out or what might help, other than taking the whole front covers off the engines....Just speaking to someone with some ideas would be helpful...can supply phone numbers....Boat is in Caribbean and local qualified engineers not available. Many thanks!

Re: Yanmar 3HM35F Fuel Injection Pump Removal HELP!

I have two of those in a catamaran, too. I've done a bit of work on them but havent taken the pumps off yet. Sounds strange that anything would be frozen up or need maintenance after sitting for two years in a sheltered location. they're full of diesel, which should still be okay and Diesel fuel is a lubricant. Why do you think they need servicing? It also seems strange to me that both of them would have a problem there, when neither should.

What symptoms lead you to suspect both injector pumps?

Have you tried just bleeding the fuel system at the lift pump and injector pump intake to get the air out? I'd expect these engines to start right up. Also, are your compression releases hooked up? that's the spring loaded linkage on top of the valve cover.

Do you have a copy of the shop manual? Not the four language operators manual, but the big tech manual with all the step by step removal, inspection and reassembly instructions? It's excellent.

Re: Yanmar 3HM35F Fuel Injection Pump Removal HELP!

Many thanks Canibul and GordMay for your responses - that is the manual we have but thank you for the link.

At some point the throttles have been taken out of neutral and left engaged and the fuel control racks jammed or seized in that position. This appears to be preventing the pumps from being lifted out and we are unable to free the racks....we are continuing to search for a solution but appreciate your feedback.

Many thanks..
