Yanmar 2QM20 Starter Mtr Replacement 2nd Hand?

It occurs to me that a small diesel mtr built in japan in 1978-79 using a hitachi generic starter motor means that same motor must have been used in a lot of other japan manufactured engines. Does anyone have any information that might help me in looking for a 2nd hand starter motor, probably from a wreckers yard? It was suggested to me previously on here that the model waas a hitachi S114-206...so I'd like to know if this was used on any of the mass produced cars of that time - toyota, mitsubishi, mazda, nissan, etc as these would be the cheapest source.
I'll report back shortly on what I've used as a replacement, which may be of interest to anyone else with a 2qm.

Don't forget to try places like Kubota tractor dealers.

Re: Yanmar 2QM20 Starter Mtr Replacement 2nd Hand?

for the record - short answer - no, because its a bit of an oddball, so didnt turn up any mass produced vehicles that used them. On the other hand, Yanmar quoted me about $1500 for a new one. Found a supplier in Adelaide that sent me a new replacement for $420 incl. gst and postage, arrived 2 working days later, bonus was I got to check the condition of the rocker oil line while the starter was off. Calling this one a win.

FWIW - same starter mtr used on; some John Deere loaders and skid steers '84 on, mid 90's, and Thermo King truck units but I couldnt be bothered looking for truck wreckers to scrounge through

Where are you? I may just have one at my dad's farm from my old engine newly rebuilt. See some of my older threads about the price I paid! Think it was about 700 for a rebuilt one.

already got a new one - seeing the old one lasted 35 years I dont think I'll be needing another for a while, but thanks for the thought.
