Re: Water Separating Fuel Filter on a Yanmar 40hp (Racor)

Thanks for all of the answers. While I get the gravity fed refill, I think I would rather have it up higher. I also like the idea of the electric pump to refill it as Ross says.

Ross - Is that pump before or after the filter? (Push or Pull?)

Good thought. But I guess it's all about taking care for sure. Changing filters is a mess and messy in general. Convenience/access would drive where I put them. Diesel in the bilge is gonna small also. Under berth may be fine, especially if you put a Rubbermaid dishpan or similar under them.

Between tank and filter.

Re: Water Separating Fuel Filter on a Yanmar 40hp (Racor)

Broker's incompetent.
I have a Yanmar, 30 HP, with two big Racors above the tank, fitted with 2 micron elements and can switch on the fly. No fuel feed issues, the vacuum gauge has hardly ever lifted off the stop.
I change the one working element each year and the secondary every second year as it's really only along for the ride. Have 2500 SMH on it now, hoping for another 3000.
