Re: VP 2003t

Have you tried marine parts Europe? I would suggest giving them a call, not just checking the website. I replaced that pump on our 2003 (Non Turbo) years ago, it looks like the prices rose considerably! You may have to call around a bunch to find one.

We (Balmar) make a serpentine ALtMount conversion kit for that engine that you may consider while replacing the pump. It will help to extend the life of a new pump by putting less side-load on it. The bonus is that you can then install a larger alternator. You can contact RJS or Energy Solutions in UK.

Re: VP 2003t

I called Marine Parts express here in the US, they have the part in stock, for $1000.18.

Here is their website: Volvo Penta, Mercruiser and more - Marine Parts Express - engines, outdrives, propellers

I used them when I had my Volvo engines, they are good folks.

Hi,
Thanks for replying
I have called them along with 11 other dealers all are saying the same thing.
I may have found one in the USA waiting for confirmation but they want approx £900 !!!
If I do get one I will look at your conversion bracket
Thanks once again.

Re: VP 2003t

You could try these folk:

Volvo Penta

https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/default.aspx

Volspec Limited | Volvo Penta Main Dealer | Marine Engineers | Industrial Engineers | Spares, Service

In fact, I would give these folk a call first, even if it is an international call.

Has anyone got one of these pumps, new or second hand?
Has anyone ever fitted a different pump with a measure of success?
I know there is a repair kit but I have been informed by three different engineers that the kit is difficult to install and not very successful even when fitted correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I purchased a new one about a year ago. Expensive, but readily available in the US. You might try contacting some Volvo dealers directly -- they might have one in stock. Mine came from the Volvo dealer in San Diego (sorry, no contact info.)

Re rebuilding: My old one had a good shaft, so it was easy to rebuild using locally-sourced bearings and seals. You do need a good press, and the pully can be hard to remove, so take care there. Even if the shaft is scored, a good machine shop can repair it by welding and turning back to spec.

I say this, in part, because we had the work done in Mexico where the prevalent attitude is "we can fix this" rather than "go by a new one".

Re: VP 2003t

Hi
I found a rebuild kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/volvo-diese...EAAOSwyKta2KhR

According to my info, the circulating pump is the same on all 2000 series engines, but you may wish to verify.

These pumps show up (used) on ebay(US) & ebay(UK) occasionally.

Re: VP 2003t

I had mine rebuilt by a automotive water pump specialist about a month ago. He said parts were no problem, but I’m not sure he used Volvo bits. Provided a guarantee with it. Rebuild was around $300 kiwi iirc. Muzza's Automotive Water Pumps in Auckland nz.

If its the same pump as the other 2XXX series engines then one from another engine might do. Folk like these people:

Re: VP 2003t

Hi
Good news, I have, with the help of cruising friends found a brand new pump in Turkey!!

Bad news is that it’s 980€ delivered!!!

Still we should have it here in Croatia by the end of next week.

One question, do I need to use expensive Volvo Penta coolant??? I feel like I’ve given those robbing ba*^~#ds enough money already!!

Thanks once again for all your help.

This is a great forum

Derek

Re: VP 2003t

Absolutely not. Any quality coolant will do. Ensure you mix to recommended concentration
