It is always difficult to diagnose an electrical fault from afar, especially if the OP is not full bottle on electrical knowledge but in this instance, posts 9 and 10 pretty well dictate that the starter motor was not getting enough current due to faulty cables / connections. The solenoid (both contacts and coil) would appear to be serviceable from the previously posted information.

Re: Sluggish cranking Yanmar

I will certainly update everyone once I get my new 1/0 cables installed. Judging from how well my test run went when putting the battery next to the starter and connecting it with new cables, I anticipate big things.

once more, you are discussing an entirely different problem. The OP does not have an issue with current to the solenoid. He cannot get enought current to crank over the starter motor. The wire to the solenoid does a couple of jobs in the starter but it does not provide energy to the starter motor fields; the big cable does that. You are discussing a recent thread about the solenoid not working and as I said there, adding a relay is unnecessary.

Re: Sluggish cranking Yanmar

If it is just one of the starter cables, it is a simple matter to bypass each one with a jumper cable, to check it.

Re: Sluggish cranking Yanmar

Just a follow up to this discussion....My wife and I pulled the new 1/0 cables through the dark hidden recesses of our boat bilge and wired everything up. The old 2awg cables did indeed appear stiff and corroded on the inside after I was able to inspect more closely after removal. Also, with the spare cable left over, I made some new jumpers from each bank to the main selector switch. Proud to say that I've never heard our engine crank up so instantaneously. Really happy with the results. Also, I wanted to mention that I purchased through Amazon a 16ton hydraulic press lug crimper and am very happy with its performance as well.

Nice. Now I just need a boat that can handle an additional 16 tons of cargo!
