Shop Manual 2QM15

I'm having trouble with my 2QM15, hard to start, bleeding air takes lots of time and patience. When she finally does bust off there's a "cha cha cha" sound from the intake. She idles rough but runs ok when rev'd over 1000 rpm. Engine dies when forward is engaged, but seems to be alright in reverse, both while tied to dock, I'm afraid to leave the slip because of the current through the marina, don't want to paddle uphill.
Could the "cha cha" be a bad valve causing hard starts and low compression, hence the struggle under a load?

Also am interested in a down loadable shop manual if anyone knows where or how to obtain that....at no cost!

Thanks,
J

Re: Shop manual 2QM15

No expert by any means but do you know how many hours are on the engine. If it were mine, I'd pull the injectors and do a compression check on the engine, look at the condition of the injectors and look at the spray pattern of the injectors. Assuming there is no air in the system, it sounds like the injector pump and or the injectors might need to be rebuilt. I'd do that first before I worried about the engine noise which might be caused by a faulty fuel system.

My engine exhibited your exact symptoms.

Turned out to be low compression failed valve seats.

You could go through the full service procedures for valve adjustment first and make sure you aren't just in need a good servicing.

You would need to do a compression test to determine the condition of the engine.

if low compression is indicated you may get by with a top end overhaul.

Thanks weephee and EC. I'll take your advice and do the simpler things first.
Thanks for the manual. Just what I needed for the J30.

Re: Shop Manual 2QM15

Update!
It appeared to be a bad valve, turns out it's probably a cracked head. After removing the head you can see, with your eye, a wash or crevasse, from an intake valve towards an injector. Going to have it magna-fluxed on Monday.
Any ideas where to find a good 2QM15 head in the states?
