Perkins Parama/ Volvo 2030

Greetings,
Seeking info on rebuild of injector pump and injectors. Shaking/ Rough idle as though 1 cyl isn't firing immediately goes away @ rpm above 1,000. Have catamaran with Perkins Parama M30 on port and Volvo 2030 on starboard. Hurth zf trans v drives on both.

depends on where you are on this fine panet.
Both jobs should not be attempted in the field. The injector pumps are not suspect in my mind until the injectors and compression are proven.

Second that. Have you changed fuel filters recently?

Embarrassed

I haven't changed secondary filter on that engine. I'm in Southern California in a place called "the OC". It stands for "over charged". Any idea a fair price to rebuild injectors/ pump? Compression test? Thanks for your help !

On the East Coast...Injector service runs abut $80.00 per injector to be cleaned/serviced at a diesel shop. Labor can run 3-4 hours approx. Some times less if injectors come out easy....sometimes more if they are frozen in.

How handy are you with tools/instructions?

Fairly adept with tools & instructions

I have a good stock of tools but have never dealt with injectors before. Engine is easily worked on with all the access in the world. I'd prefer to try it myself as the lesson is worth more to me than the solution.
I have one original 1995 M30 Perkins Parama and one 2005 Volvo 2030 that I installed two years ago. No issues with the Volvo as of yet. Parama shakes like the dickens @ start up until above 1,000 revs and has to idle at same or shakes violently. Runs like a top otherwise. Replaced glow plugs to no avail last month. Quoted $100 each on injectors if brought to shop and $500 on pump brought to them. Have extra used pump and injectors.
Thanks for any help.

Chief,
Thanks for the reply. What instructions would you suggest on the injector rebuild? The pump? I can't imagine it is magic and I have 3 additional injectors and another pump to practice with.
Thanks again for your interest,

Paul

Before you pull anything apart, try this.

Start engine, have appropriate wrench handy for injector nut, 11/16 or 17 I think.

With engine running, crack nut until you see fuel spurting. Engine should lose RPM.

If you do that and have no change...I would suspect the injector. If you have a good spare injector, pop it in and see if there is any change.....Do not touch the tip of the injector with your fingers or let it bounce off the deck (HAHA)
