Need marine diesel mechanic San Fran Bay area

We are new to this area, and are trying to locate someone to do some work on our Westerbeke W21 diesel on a 33' sailboat.

We probably need some significant work --- a 2600 hour engine that starts right up and runs well, but is getting higher than normal fuel consumption, blows some oily carbon in the water at each start, has incredibly carbonized oil even though changed regularly. Valves, injector test/clean/adjust, and compression tests at a minimum.

Right now I have an appt with KKMI, and have heard good things, but just am wary of boatyards and outrageous charges.........

1. KKMI Diesel shop good? Fair?
2. Anyone have a favorite mech who might want a good project?

We are not trying to do this "cheaply: --- a fair wage for good work --- we just need the benefit of someone who can help us in the evaluation for work required, and then do it efficiently and well.

Thanks
Terri

I have had good experience with Berkley Marine Center. A little cheaper than KKMI but still good work. There are some independents who do good work but are cheaper but I can't think of the guys name. I think it was East Bay Marine diesel but not sure.
