I'm looking to buy one of the hydraulic cutlass bearing press tools. Does anyone have a lead on where to find one?

I took mine to a machine shop (metal working) that used one of their presses. That would be a good place to get a lead on suppliers.

?#1: Are you looking to do it on the boat or are you removing your strut?

#2: How old is the bearing?

#3: How thick do you think the broze material is that supports the rubber?

The reason for the #2 & 3 questions; some times it's EZ'r to just take a hack saw and split one side or even opposite sides of the bearing and drive it out with a brass/aluminum punch. If they are real thin and been in there for a long while, they'll never press out but just crumble up then seize up the press arbor.

Extracted properly, one can use a length of fine thread all-thread with several fender washers and lube it with anti-sieze, which should draw it right in. Providing it's not too big (over 1- 1/4").

If it's out of the boat and in good shape (the bronze) take it to a shop that can press it out.

If it's attached to the boat, it'll take a porta-power, all-thread and the proper arbor to fit the bearing. Porta-Powers are not cheap, even to rent!

You may be better off paying a yard to do it. You have to know what your doing or you can ruin the strut and trying to find the proper replacement could be costly.

If the yard ruins it, they buy it.

I want to buy one of these presses to make money with. I know all the other ways and have done countless bearings the manual way. It's time to do it the eay way. There is a press out there that can work around the shaft. Just remove the prop and press out the old bearing and in the new one.

I found one and bought it. $5000.00, it'll take awhile to recoup but well worth it.

Actually, $5000. is not too bad if you get a selection of arbors. The hydraulics alone is around the $3000. mark.

This stuff is all machined. Hours of work making the stuff, let alone the calculations and design........................_/)
