a light grey or off white is real nice to see every little leak. if you're good at watching for leaks etc any color other than real dark (like black) is fine though. White will show all the alternator belt dust etc. but then it's a good reminder to wipe things down!

Yeah! I'd go with white too. A clean engine room is impressive. As for the paint I've had great success with this >>>> Dupli-Color® Engine Paint with Ceramic - Krylon Products Group

This one will be white too if I ever have to tear it down. Hope it out lives me!
