all the windows are clear forward and on the side covers upstairs ,it is just the aft covers that are tinted, and they would probably be rolled up when sailing to keep the mainsheet free.

apart from that the AIS,RADAR and mark 1 eyeball from the crew should cover the rest

Thanks........ I'm not a lover of tints on the driving window... expensive history to ratify my opinion..

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Hey atoll, first post, and don't know any technical terms, but what is the height of the dining area when you walk in? can you stand? I see quite a few prouts for sale, so am just curious for the length of the boat.

Thanks

there is standing room in both of the hulls about 7ft and in the dining area about 6ft2'.
however where you enter from the cockpit is on the raised area either side of the central pod so about 10 inches less than in the dining area.

That's decent then. I was wondering because all of the big cats have the kitchens up top. Did you consider this when doing this big reno?

Prouts are more open than the cats you are talking about. Take a lagoon for example. If the galley was down in a hull, you wouldn't be able to see or even talk to someone in the saloon. The hulls are almost sectioned off. If fact can be completely sectioned off if you pay the extra for the door.

With Prouts, the hulls are only about 40-50cm lower than than the saloon. It's all open. You can see everything between the two bulk heads from the saloon. That includes the galley and the chart table area.

It also means that you don't get a fully height back rest when sitting in the saloon, which is a bit annoying.

That makes sense. I was just wondering if people would like the kitchen up top with a sitting area at the front, put a wall up on one side and where the hull kitchen is put a nice big bed and washroom in one hull.

Just dreaming for now.

thats why you put a bar-b-que on the stern, you get all that within easy reach of the cockpit.

what you have to realise is the prouts are actually quite small compared to similar length cats with 5-6ft wider beam.

i did consider changing the position of the mast and adding a raised coach roof initially if you go back to about page 7 of the thread, but in view of resale value and other considerations decided to stick with the original design.

LOL! Yes, I did, but have only recently been getting on here with regularity. I typically don't post as I don't really have anything to contribute, just really enjoy reading and learning from all of you.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

finally got round to an update for those that are interested.
so far most of the electrical systems are now in ,tested , working and talking to each other with the exception of the mast wiring which will come later.

as you can see from the list,i have been quite busy and if i never see a NMEA sentence again it will be too soon!

still got a Quark AIS,GPS wifi/usb engine to fit but at the moment the vhf ais seems sufficient, not having any ipads or smart phones that need wifi.

probably best to list them in groups.
12v and 24v battery monitors, both connected up now with remote solar charge controller monitors.

sterling 230v 24v,20A mains/generator smart charger
alfatronix 24v to 12v 12A smart charger (so i can effectively run the 24v batteries and 12v batteries as one 600 AH bank)
24v to 12v 10A power supply
additional 2 x 150w solar panels(still to be fitted on coach roof) giving a total of 900w solar.

furuno radar monitor
standard horizon gx2200e AIS,DSC,GPS ,VHF
USB nmea interface to 12v laptop running opencpn

raymarine i40 depth,speed and temp
raymarine i60 wind speed and direction

raymarine st 6000+ autopilot and corepack
raymarine joystick (for independent steering control of rudders,in case of steering cable failure)
garmin plotter,at helm interfaced with auto pilot.
linear drive hydraulic ram and pump.
rudder angle sensor and fluxgate compass
autohelm autopilot belt driven to helm
anchor up/down control
steering compass.

gas solenoid for cooker
interior lights
navigation lights at deck level.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

hola amigos!
long time, no post sorry about that, been busy customising the fittings for rigging the mast and doing yacht deliveries amongst other stuff like sending daughter off to college and re-decorating mothers house in Hungary.

Good news is the mast now up ,and all the changes to the designed rig worked out great, boat floats level and still well above her lines, forestay and inner forestay are nice and parallel .

a few photos,of the 950 mile delivery of a jeaneau 39 to southern portugal from the uk in june and the mast.

a few more photos of the mods done and hardware on the mast section to refit the spreaders and chain plates in their new locations and halyard system before rigging the old section that needed the spreaders and attachment points moving.
