Do I need bowsprit for a screecher?

Good day.Planning to add a schreecher to my cat. I calculate the size about 600sq.f
Should I make a sprit and weld it to the forebeam ? Or, just attache the furler to the bow eyes ? First option seems to be easier to store and set it to fly. Second - less expensive and, maybe better tacking angle ?
Furlers for fly sail: Selden, Harken,Profurl,Facnor. The last (model FX2500)semms to be the cheapest. Is it the way to "pay twice"? Or it's a reliable brand ?
Thanks & regards!

i have screecher of 75 m2 with bowsprit. gennaker halyard must be extremely tight for it to work well. You probably need decicated winch just for that. Ensure your solution is strong enough for the task .

I'd be very cautious about welding a sprit to the forebeam. I doubt that it is engineered for the torsional loads it would be subject to.

The boat builder said:"it's possible" There is alloy-tang insert inside the aluminum beam. And, I may direct guy-layers to the bow eyes (4 totally). But, I don't want to extend the sprint more than a hull/bow. The questions is, if I really need the bowsprit, or it is just enough and, maybe even will be better to fix the reel swivel directly to Port/Starboard eye and, to change it with a tack ? that will be less expensive solution and, I've seen opinnion, will give better pointing angle

Could you rig a bridle from each hull like this Manta?

The Screacher should have a low stretch halyard and be set up with a lot of tension to work properly. This probably can not be done with a bridle. Best to buy one of the Forespar bow sprit kits and mount this to the front beam with fasteners.

I already have a bridle with harken blocks & dinema ropes leading to rear/main winches and/or cleats - I use it to rig ATN asymetric. Do you mean I may use it for furling screecher ? I think, this need a a well tensioned luff...

This is obviouse option. A kit, or custom welded. But, this guy have fixed the furler to the bow eye. And, claim he may point better:
Screecher sail - Flingtime

I've seen a cat at Azores with similar rig (diagonal luff from the stay to a port bow, furler down) and thought:"What is this?"
I don't want to extend the bowsprit longer than my hulls in any case(if not make it retractable??) . But, I must lead the foot above the handrails

I agree. The added sprit would need to extend aft to the hull in order to resist the torque otherwise applied by a cantilevered spar. OR you will need stays. The geometry might be important to the sail plan. I suggest you involve a rigger and a sail maker to get this right. Here is a Google search for a mess'o pictures of spar installations.

Does the boat maker offer any advice on this?

Re: Do I need bowsprit for a screecher?

Nicholson 58oes the boat maker offer any advice on this?

This is a custom cat & the boatmaker is on his retirement. He said, that I may add the sprit and fix it with the wires to the hulls bow eyes.
But, if the fixing sprit to the beam is problematic, maybe the best solution is not to make a sprit, but fix a luff+furler to the bow eye and switch port-to-starborad while tacking ? This is the easiest solution - I just have to check if the screecher's luff will not conflict with a handrails
What about the furler make ? Facnor is reliable enough ? Or, better invest in
Selden/Harken/Profurl?

Re: Do I need bowsprit for a screecher?

Facnor is fine.
I have F4500 on our cat.
For the size you have stated F2500 will be fine.
If you add a bowsprit it needs two counter stays to a low points on the bows to work against the upward and sideward pull of the sail. These are called bobstays in professional lingo.

You've fitted F4500 on Lagoon 400 ? What size of the sail you have ?

It is a gennaker.
Halyard exits near top of the mast, above forestay.
The sail is standard option offered by Lagoon.
The have an option for a larger sail - Asymmetric spinnaker, I do not remember exact size.
