Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

Hi Cesar,

I found the plans for the Buccaneer 40. I have mailed them to a forum member in Australia who has a commitment to scan them and make them available on the internet. Hopefully he will post here when the plans are available.

Best wishes,

Re: Crowther Buccaneer 40' Trimaran.

Here are the scans of the Buccaneer 40 Trimaran plans plus a scan of a 40' cat that seems to be lost !
They are not complete but it is what we have.

The link to the Buc 40 plans doesn't seem to work. Have you still got them hosted?

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

Thanks guys. I can't access any file sharing sites with our firewall down here so I was relying on friends back home and they told me the links were dead. Just have to wait until I get back to Australia

Got it sorted. It was because I was copying the link from here and not opening it then copying.
The Bucc 40 looks quite nice and streamlined. Were there many ever built?

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

So as i understand the Kraken 40 was designed as a race boat, and the Buc 40 was the cruising adaptation? Anybody cruising a Kraken 40?

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

i am looking at a Buccaneer 40 and the owner says she doesn't have a backstay. What gives with that?

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

Longjonsilver; because multi’s have a wide staying base most just use a forestay and swept back shrouds, this enables the big roachy mainsails that would normally catch on a backstay.
Some still use running backstays for mast head kites but even they are rare now as asymmetric spinnakers suit multi’s speed better.

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

There are no backstays shown on the plans that i have, except the runners which go to the upper spreaders. Funny thing, she has a baby stay as well as a staysail stay. i was thinking of flying my asymmetric kite from the staysail halyard.

Learn something new everyday

Re: Crowther Buccaneer Trimarans.

I removed the baby stay and running back stays from mine . Both were non structural. The baby stay hinders tacking like they all do and the running back stays were perfectly positioned to be in the way while boarding.
