Union Polaris 36

I see lots of these UP36's for sale. What does that mean? They were and are popular or is it because they're a great boat?

How well do they sail?

I have a Union 36 -- cutter rig. She sails exceptionally well... We have sailed her through 35 knots in the SF bay area...

Up though 18 knots she slides along nicely with full sail (jib, stay, main). She does slow down and get overpowered at 28 knots with full sail We went from 7.5 knots boats speed to 5 knots when the wind moved from 25 knots to 28 knots (not a gust... sustained wind change).

So... once we break 25 knots we drop the jib and stay with Stay and full main. Once we break 30, we single reefed the main and kept the staysail up.

I am very pleased with her sailability and the cutter configuration options.
