A while back folks were complaining that small boats were going out of fashion.. no longer catered for by the big boat builders..

The article mentions Three Bridge Fiasco, which is likely to be held the last Saturday in January 2019. Not only is it exclusively a singlehand and doublehand race, it's also one of the largest regattas in the nation with more than 300 entries in the last few years. Once the formal San Francisco Bay racing schedule comes out, more info will be posted here: http://sfbaysss.org/main/. Solo sailing/racing still seems to be a niche thing, but doublehand or shorthanded (only 2 people) seems to be on the rise here. That seems to be how most people cruise, too. I would think boat manufacturers would want to cater to their typical customer...

The Figaro 3 mentioned in the first article, that was in the sailboat show, belongs to a friend of mine. He already owned a 40’ sled that he raced successfully but was exhausted by the logistics of managing a crew of ten. He’s super happy with his new boat, which is a blast.

As for cruising boats, it’s just plain logical that the fewer it takes to run a boat the safer it’s going to be, all other things being equal.
