She's carvel-planked with 50mm Iroko on laminated 100mm Iroko frames every 300mm. Fastenings : copper rivets, all other bolts stainless steel. Decks are 20mm marine ply with 20mm teak planking.

Rest of the boat (also down below) : Brazilian mahogany.

Water & diesel tanks are aluminium, mast supports galvanised steel.

Keel ballast is 8 tons of cast iron. All chain plates & fixtures on deck are either stainless steel or bronze.
All sounds good to me.... however ... do you have the time and money to maintain, keep, and insure her?

Re: Puzzled...

Alan Pape designs are eminently seaworthy, traditional, many high freeboard, nice sailors. Dark interior in this one . Shocking video.

Wood not my cup of tea. Varnishing definitely not either.

A very nice 38' steel Pape changed hands recently for 50-60k USD.

I do agree is very dated = traditional. To each his/her own.

Re: Puzzled...

I bought an older classically styled boat. She's beautiful and draws comments from everyone that sees her. I love my boat. She is slow, safe and strong.
But, just like a beautiful woman, she demands much more of my time to keep her that way and the costs to upgrade her systems are daunting.
Kenomac and others are steering you in the right coarse. Do you wanna sail or work on the boat?

Hmm, what if you lived in a developing country and could get low-skill tasks like varnishing done extremely cheaply...

Would you like to have a lovely classic wooden boat then ....?

What are you suggesting? Any recommendations?

Well, in my experience low cost developing countries tend to be hot and tropical.... so the sun wreaks havoc with your topsides while the teredo devours the underwater hull.

Best place for this boat would be Norway......

I cannot make concrete suggestions... But I spend most of my time in Asia where there is almost unlimited cheap labour. Probably one can find the same in the Caribbean etc.
Hence the need to varnish a lot etc does not need to be a problem ... Just hire someone to do the bulk of the work and make sure the bost is generally pristine :-)
Assuming you are not on the lowest of budgets yourself, of course.
Point taken about the sun's effect.

Congratualations, we look forward to seeing pictures and tales of skinned knuckles and your progress on the refit.
