Re: Porta-Bote

HOW can there be three different weights for the same boat?
Kinda funny Canibul. Maybe a typo crept into the spec sheet when someone flipped 78 for 87, or vice versa? Or maybe they don't really know.

I wonder how much my 10-footer actually weighs. I know I can pull it on board (seats and all) myself without the need for halyards or a crane. I'm sure I could do the same with the 12-footer. That's the key measure for me.

The newer models have an attached transom. The older ones like mine have a separate wooden transom that might be excluded from the hull weight. If the concern is lifting and carrying it, the older one with the separate transom would be lighter.

But if you really want to know, call them and ask.

Any chance that in surf, or if the boat gets tossed in surf, that the seats could come out, and the boat fold up on you?

Nope. They are secured with pins that lock.

did you see the part about email from the president of Porta-Bote? it's been in three of the posts on the last two pages. I didn't contact them. I contacted him. And pointed out where the specs disagree. We are now having a great email exchange about torqueedos and two vs four strokes. He can't have one. I can.

Why would I make an international phone call when email is free and leaves a written record?

Dude! I'm just trying to help you, not start an argument. And I don't care about torqueedos. If you don't want my help, just ignore it!

Yeah, They have been pretty unresponsive to my email also. I think the outfit is just run by some elderly (slightly older than me) lady who just manages the outsourced mfg. and shows up at boat shows.

I've got a 12'er tied to my back porch. I'll try to remember to weigh it when i get home. You've got me curious.

But me old mind don't always work so well so feel free to bug me on this if needed.

So, how do you measure volume? US gallons, imperial gallons, or liters or quarts?

Sounds mor like a buddy rolling orgy than a simple swinger arrangement!

Re: Porta-Bote

I posted this before, but the newer model includes an integral transom while the older model had a separate wooden transom.

Quote:
Also new is a patented folding transom which means you don't have to carry a separate transom anymore because it is part of the Porta Bote itself.
This could easily account for the difference in weight. The lower weight is a previous model less the wooden transom, the higher weight is the newer model with the folding transom.

Oh, you don't wanna know who we do volume . But to be boringly serious, I use US gallons for my boat, imperial for mileage, and litres and millilitres for most measures. Quarts are just litre-wannabees.

I understand Canibuls frustration as one not directed at you but rather at the preponderance of a manufacturer that can't even get basic facts about their own product straight.
