Why anyone would ever buy a Hunter is beyond my ability to understand. Do you realize how much of a real cruising sailboat you could buy for $150,000? They have a terrible design and are of flimsy build-quality. Hunter is in the same category as the McGregor 26. Don't do it.

Have you seen it? They have a tremendous amount of windage...look like monsters from dockside. But nothing quite matches a Hunter for living space per dollar spent.

As for the "real cruising boat" comment; ignore it unless you are planning on crossing oceans, and even then do your own research. Horses for courses...

I have to agree.. if I had $150K ready, I'd keep looking. But yes, it is very pretty.

A Hunter maybe be easier sell if you want something bigger in the future.....however.........hit him low on the price...if the boat is what you want...hit them low...there are alot of boats especially blue water crusiers out there on the market....

On the bright side, this model is a palace and alot of light and ports....remember happy wife happy life.

I like it. I think the color of the interior upholstery is terrible, but that can be changed. I've noticed that people really like to hate on Hunter Boats here. 150K is actually a good price for a 45 foot boat that has a lot of upgrades. There are concerns about quality with any used boat, but that's what a survey is for. After the survey, then knock something off the price if you see specific issues.

The only specific issue I notice from the photos is that this boat has two cabins, one of them with a pullman berth. If this is a boat for a couple, that has an occasional guest aboard, then it's just fine. But if you are having another couple aboard long term, or have two or more kids, you might want to look for a different arrangement.

A fellow I knew who was a long time boater but new to sailing had that very same boat and loved it. He day-sailed it a little, but mostly kind of used it as a summer cottage. He and his wife loved it. There were a few issues they had to have corrected when it was commissioned, not uncommon for Hunters of that era, but it was a good boat for them.

Re: I really like this boat, looking for opinions...

I have a boat that was severely maligned by many when it first appeared on the market in 1971. Boat designers generally thought that Charlie Morgan had compromised performance and aesthetics with the Morgan Out Island.

I recognize these compromises that come with the shallow draft, big beam and raised deck, but I've been living aboard and cruising these boats for 44 years.

I agree with all those that see faults in the designs of boats that they dislike and I see merit in the choices of others that favor these same boats.

Sure, this Hunter can be a dog or a dream!

We owned the same boat, a 1998 Hunter 450. Please PM me if you want an honest review. Basically, we liked the boat very much for it's intended purpose at the time, but then our needs changed.
