Help Needed to inspect a boat up in the North of New Zealand

I am keen to look into a boat in the South of the Bay of Islands in New Zealand.

As I live in Australia I was wondering if there might be a member out and about who has a bit of time and is keen to have a little poke around a boat on my behalf simply to give me their initial thoughts before I lay down some $$ for flights.

Obviously these are just your lay thoughts and in no way would I attach any liability whatsoever to your thoughts and opinions. (just to be clear I guess).

If you are up near the Bay of Islands (not looking to buy a new boat like this monohull) and might have a bit of spare time please PM me and we can work out the details. Happy to reimburse your reasonable expenses.

Can you say which boat you're looking at? There's a chance one of us will know it or may have looked at it previously - or remember roughly when it hit New Zealand!

Hi Yotop, I know that you are trying to help and wouldn't do this, but in the past one or a hundred of us have been gazumpped by the "lurkers" here so I will keep silent for a bit.

I have a friend looking at it from Auckland if I pay his petrol for the weekend. Seemed fair!

Once the papers are signed I will be telling the world don't worry!

But thank you for your offer, it is greatly appreciated, it's just a shame I don't know everyone on the internet.

Hadn't considered that angle at all! I've been sailing up and down between Auckland and the Bay of Islands (and beyond) for 26 years and know a lot of owners and boats. I know of some yachts which have hit bottom and I know a number of repairers and marine surveyors. I was in Opua myself recently (I often stop there on my way to my holiday place further north) to check out a couple of 44 footers. Problems! I'll take a leaf out of your book and refrain from naming them. I'm unimpressed with your slight that I could be a gazumper of some sort. Gazumping to me was unscrupulously jacking up house sale prices, esp. in the UK. The chances of me wanting the boat you're interested in are very, very remote. In complete good faith, I was doing nothing more than offering a bit of local knowledge, hopefully helpfully. Additionally, since I'm regularly up that way anyway, I wouldn't have wanted, expected or accepted petrol money.
