Gozzard 36

Anyone have an opinion on the Gozzard 36? We're contemplating a boat for coastal/Caribbean and possibly beyond and would like something under 42 ft. We like the open layout of the Gozzards. There are several used ones out there, but they aren't cheap! All comments or suggestions welcome.

Never been even close to one as they are rare as teeth on a chicken...And just as expensive..

Seriously though, IF I won the lotto and was looking for a new boat, I would take a real close look at them Gozzards...Been eyeballing the glossy ads for a while, but a tad over current budget...

I think they are cored below the waterline and like everyone else has said ,pricey.

Nice boats and well made but not worth the bucks IMHO. You can get a bigger boat for less money and just as or more seaworthy so the question is...do the looks of the boat trump the lack of value?

I've been on one but never sailed one. They look and seem like the price. Wow!

jeez - i own a bristol and even i gotta say that's a lot of exterior teak. also cutter rig on a 36 footer - and a sprit to balance on - not my idea of easy sailing short handed. nice open space below for a couple, but will sleep only 4. thats a lotta money - capt. lar

You've got to love the look to buy one. Myself I prefer the Clorox bottle look, much easier to maintain. But if you like that look why not a Cabo Rico? Much better built boat. A friend bought a Gozzard 41, he was very disappointed with the quality and service.

I have to agree that service is a very important dimension to consider....often an uneven profile across manufacturers.Those that care about building a customer base take care of new boat delivery problems without too much hassle and help you solve problems on their older models.

Thanks for all of your comments. We've been re-thinking the Gozzard. It is a lot of money! We love the open layout -- but for that amount of money we could buy a bigger boat! We've decided to pay less $$$ for the boat and have more $$$ for the cruising kitty. Now we are looking at Tayanas (42 Vancouver) or Gulfstars. I like the look of the Gulfstar 47 sailmaster, but it looks like a big boat for two people to handle. We also like the Moody 37. Looking for a cruiser big enough to be comfortable (preferably aft cabin) but not too big (to keep down expenses and for easier handling).

We are not ready to go out and buy a boat yet -- just trying to narrow down the list of boat models/types to look at when the time comes.
