I guess I hadn't really thought of it, but it makes total sense. The forces at play being that a full keel will have a longer and deeper wetted area and be less willing to change direction quickly?

The longer keel does keep more directional stability, but the rudder is not as effective as a balanced spade of course. So for me I am very aware of keeping weather helm down so I am not putting the brakes on with the rudder.
