Does this Exist ? Little Advice, Please . . .

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I currently live aboard my families 42' Sports Fish. Looking to buy my own boat, sail boat specifically.

Looking to cruise at some point, hopefully a cruise that lasts indefinitely.
Until its time to leave the marina, i will be living on the boat.

What i am looking for is as follows

blue water cruiser (for whatever that means)
38'-44'
$150k or less USD

Sloop or Cutter Rigged (specifically not Ketch)

And i think i would prefer a large aft cabin. This means i am probably looking at a Center Cockpit.
I am open to Aft Cockpits, but I really think i would like a nice sized aft cabin.

Also, does a Center Cockpit with Sugar Scoop Stern even exist? To make it easier to dive off of?

I really like this boat even though it is Ketch rigged, which i assume can be changed?

And also this boat.

Now if i could get one of these that was easy to dive off of, that would be even better.

I had originally looked at cats, but i dont want to finance my boat, i want to pay cash.

I found a few boats in the 30-60k range that needed total refits that looked like they would be fun projects, but i will probably be living on them while working on them.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think, i am open to anything. Old "proven" boats, bendy-toys, new boats etc... Keeping my options open and looking.

The sugar Scoop stern isnt a must, but just wondering.

I dont care for the year, I like both old and new. I am not opposed to restoring a boat either. I have been looking at countless boats just daydreaming, and each time i think i know what i want, i find something else.

Go look at boats then.

Its no use asking us. Half the forum will tell you that you will die in one sort of boat and the other half the forum will tell you thqat your boat wont move.

Both of the boats you cited are listed with Rogue Wave Yacht Sales. Bernie and Kate are good people and will give you good advice. They specialize in "blue water boats", especially Valiants. If you're near Annapolis, you should go talk to them.

Of course, you'll get some advice here, too.

i happen to look at rogue wave because its one of the only ones i can look out with company firewall

I have been lookin at boats, i live in a marina, but i have yet to see a CC with sugar scoop or an aft cockpit with a big aft cabin.

So I guess i was wondering if such a build was ever made.

Went to the in-water boat show in Kemah. There were a bunch of production boats, hunters etc. Just a few CC, none of the aft cockpits at the show had anything other than a small bed with no overhead aft. There werent any, maybe 1, older cruiser at the show, as it is costly to sell your boats at one of these.

Mark, where are you now that you have quick internet access. I have been reading the forums a while now and most of the old threads, it always makes me laugh when you chime in on a production boat thread!

My thought it, if i am going to be fixing my boat in exotic locations (read:cruising) then i might as well be able to dive there too. Hence the sugar scoop.

not bluewater , but if you want a big aft cabin center cockpit liveaboard how can you go wrong with a Morgan O/I 41 or even better a 51 and this ones in your neck of the woods

i looked at the 51' online and read this

"This boat was hauled at South Texas Yacht Services 5-25-2010 and the bottom inspected. Bottom clean, numerous blisters but as per yard not that serious that they have to be attended to now. New Shaft/prop Zinc installed."

have you done a CC search on yachtworld? you should find plenty. many of the older CC's will not have the scoop stern. In the modern production boat world it's mostly hunter with CC design. There is a nice Beneteau 42CC that has limited availability.

Do you really need "blue water"? My Endeavour 42CC has been to trinidad and back just fine but I don't know if I'd take it across the North Atlantic.

i am going to want to circumnavigate at some point. or get to the other side and stay off the coast of thailand. who knows, but whatever i buy, i would like for it to be able to get me there. i dont think you need an IP or an oyster to be blue water though as many people make passages in production boats. I am open to anything.

I really like the interior look of the Endeavors. Lots of wood, has an older feel like this one.

I do NOT like this type of interior though on the Pearson. It seems like a hybrid between old and new. Just doesnt do it for me.

For some reason the like the Cheoys.

We have a CC Whitby with an all varnished wood interior and I nearly drooled on the screen when I saw the Pearson interior you didn't like. The light and the easy maintenance are big pluses in my opinion. But as someone's signature says, I can't afford not to love my boat. By the way, you can dive off a boat without a sugar scoop stern by using the mizzen sheet block to lower tanks, or easier yet, dive from the dinghy -- you can anchor away from coral heads and dinghy over, safer for the boat and safer for the planet.
