Re: Changing Pitch of My max prop

PYI people are very helpful. I just changed my pitch (increased) by 2 degrees and have gained .5 to .75 knots at same rpm where I was overreving prior. If your engine is max reving with engine governor kicking in you are under proped.

Re: Changing Pitch of My max prop

Hi All,

Thank you for ll the help. We changed the pitch and found the correct settings at 18 degrees, thanks to MaxProp who after giving them the engine and shaft info gave me all the settings. Not an easy job to do underwater, but thanks to 2 good friends we changes it.

thank you all!

Re: Changing Pitch of My max prop

I have a max prop 3 blade classic.
when I took the prop apart I failed to notice the setting of the "Y" letter.
the "X" setting on the main cone was at "K".

what do I need to set the " X" setting to have it set up right?

what is the relationship between the "X" and the "Y"?
do the have to correspond with the same pitch value?

thanks for your help

regards
Ralph

According to the manual, a K on the X setting is 20 degrees pitch for either rotation direction. The 20 degree Y setting is either E for right rotation or C for left rotation.

If you're not sure you have it right, put the prop together with E ,and rotate it back and forth on the shaft until it hits the stops. If the blade angle is the same in forward and reverse direction, its right.

The sweet spot with a prop is when you can achieve max RPM at wide open throttle (WOT). To do otherwise is to overload the engine, not get max RPM, or get prop cavitation. If you have the classic prop making adjustments underwater is problematic and doing it when hauled numerous times gets expensive. I had to try two different settings and have the prop cut down from 18 to 17 inches to achieve this. Do it right the first time and stop screwing with it. Call PYI to confirm this and get advise if you need it.

Re: Changing Pitch of My max prop

thankyou so much.
I was struggling to work out that the Y setting was for the rotation direction and had to correspond with the pitch setting of X
funnily enough, K is also fo 0⁰

much appreciated.
