Maybe a new way to get the boat of your dreams for a reasonable price?
Had a fairly nice cruising yacht show up on a Cape Cod beach a little while back, she settled nicely onto a nice sandy beach after being at sea unescorted for about a month. Little or nor damage other than the sails, rig and all intact. Probably made a good rest stop for tired birds for awhile.
Someone got a fair boat for the right price.

Re: Center Cockpits - Still Popular ?

We have lost the thread topic here a bit but there have been a few comments along the lines of the boat being stronger that the skipper and boats turning up on beached etc after the crew have abandoned her. There have been many reported instances of this and there is no doubt the crew should have stayed with the boat. The golden rule "step up from the boat into the liferaft" is sound no matter what the boat, sea conditions or crews condition. However, lets not forget that just because some boats turn up in good condition minus the crew, there are plenty of boats that go to the bottom after striking a whale or container or some other hazard. In those cases the boat certainly isnt stronger than the crew.

The companionway drops into the widest part of the boat at the main salon. The other variation on this is split cockpit with a CC for the owner/guests and a small helm cockpit aft. My cousin & I each have different versions of this boat. Ours is ROXY, white ketch. Kurt's is African Queen sloop & split C. A couple scans also from the 30 year old glossy sales photos. The ride in the CC is pretty kind in rough seas and high center gets less splash.
Thanks for posting this anecdote with the nice photos of this very nice looking boat.
