Boat Broker in Chicago

I'm looking for a reference for a good boat broker to sell my 1989 Beneteau 285. It's a good boat and will show well.

Carly,
You don't need a broker to sell a 28 foot boat. There are many listing sights (ie; Boats.com) and you won't have to pay a commission and will always makes a better deal for yourself. My experience with brokers has been negative and I have always sold my boats quickly and at a fair market price. Good luck.

Re: Boat Broker in Chicago

Rognvald,

My boat is on a lake in downstate IL. There aren't enough in the market down here, which is why I want to take it up to the Chicago area. Maybe I could just get a slip up there instead. Any recommendations on a marina?

Thanks!

If you have a trailer why not haul it to the broker's location? Easier to sell something that's right there. Try Sail Place. I think they are in Waukegon.

Carly,
With a site like Boats.com or others, you will potentially target 300 million viewers. Most boat buyers will willingly travel to find the right boat at the right price. Why spend the extra money to ship your boat to Chicago and be held hostage by a broker you don't know when you can sell it yourself from your own backyard. This is not to disparage the references given by other respondents, but I think you can do a better job yourself and have extra negotiating room without a broker's commission. And, many brokers I've met are not too excited to get a listing for a 28 foot boat as I found out when I sold my old 25 footer years ago. Keep this in mind and don't rush to a decision since most listings are 6 months. Good luck in your sale.
