So, the HIN on this boat doesn't seem to match the current or older formats. HELP!

Sorry, I edited the post Just before I sent it. The question is what year and the month was it constructed. I believe, it’s an 83 model built in January. But I’m not positive

AFAIK, the HIN format in the OP was only introduced in Australia in 1998. Prior to that, manufacturers often used their own format if at all.

A boat without a HIN can have one allocated by a authorised HIN provider in which case the numbering will have little relevance to a build date or serial number etc.

For instance, my boat was built in the mid 70's and yet the current HIN was allocated in 2002 and bears no relationship to the builder or build date.
