Day sailing in Ontario

Hello,
We are a young couple (mid 20s) looking for sailing experience. We have limited sailing knowledge, but are easy to get along with and eager to learn. We both work full time so cannot get away on any long voyages, but hope to one day. If you would like company or help on day sailing trips please let us know, we will bring lunch.

We are in Niagara, but go north quite often on weekends.

OK, I guess we are even more out of your area, then!

Did you try going to sailing clubs in the area you want to sail and asking around, or putting an ad up? Sometimes people want crew for racing etc.

Re: Day sailing in Ontario

The Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club has a robust Shark fleet and are often looking for crew. The Shark24 is a great boat to learn on. Three person boat so you actually get to do something rather than being rail-meat.

Re: Day sailing in Ontario

Experienced crew available in Kingston, Ontario.

I'm a 55 year old single male with lots of sailing experience and knowledge of the area. Sold my boat. Would be nice to get out on the water. Happy to share my knowledge, help with deliveries, or just pull on ropes, whatever you like.

Re: Day sailing in Ontario

Between the Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club (NOLSC) and the Youngstown Yacht Club (YYC), in Youngstown, NY, you should have plenty of sailing opportunities. Call NOLSC and ask for the Vice Commodore of Fleet’s phone number or email address and get in touch with him/her. They will be able to connect you with other sailors.

If you can get back and forth to the US fairly easily (Nexus?), then YYC has a sailing evening every Thursday night. Anyone can show up. Just be at the Club by 5:30-5:45 ish and they will put you on a boat. The boats leave the dock at 6 and go out sailing for a couple of hours; you can then come back to the bar and meet lots of sailing people. This is all free of charge. Once you meet some people, you will be able to connect with racers for Tuesday (white sails only) and Wednesday (spinnaker - more competitive) which are done in conjunction with NOLSC. You may want to call YYC first and confirm that Thursday night sailing is going on (weather is an issue and how many boats are available to take people out) - their number is 716-745-7230. Hit Ext. 10.

If you want to email me directly about this, don’t hesitate to do so - cc29firsttoday@aol.com. Long time YYC member, but full time liveaboard right now and presently in Newport, RI.

Re: Day sailing in Ontario

Other choice in your area is Dalhousie Yacht Club St Catharines. Club racing Wednesday evenings. Some sail to race, others race to sail. We have an active learn to sail program for adults and youth. PM me if you want more details or check www.dalhousieyachtclub.com

50 Point is another beautiful club/marina in your region. Worth a visit just to walk around and enjoy the pastoral setting.
