Tolagnaro, Fort Dauphin, Madagascar

Afternoon all,

We are hoping to visit Madagascar next year, our route is taking us from Mauritius towards Cape Town so will be clearing into the SE of Madagascar around Tolagnaro / Fort Dauphin. There is not much information on the area and I was wondering if anyone had more info on the SE clearance procedures?

Many thanks and fair winds.

here are the contact details, but there is no anchorage so you would have to go alongside in the port with considerable swell.
both ports are very small only really suitable for large ships.

most yachts stop in toliara or tulear on the south west coast if they have to to clear out of mada, but the anchorage is again very exposed and generally very windy.

the waters on the continental shelf are also very dangerous on the south coast.
best advice would be to forget going there and head straight to south africa,or go over the top to nosey be' then proceed south.
