Info Request Regarding the Louisiades in PNG

Goodday Guy Chester,

Although the last sailing season in the islands is just finished we are already making our plans for the 2015 season . At this stage we are moored on a mooring in Savusavu , Fiji .

We have plans to leave from Savusavu at the beginning of april 2015 and sail from there straight to the Louisiades in Papua New Guinea. We will stay in the Louisiades for about 1,5 month before we will be heading for Port Moresby from where will check out. After PNG we will sail for Dili ,Timor-Leste and then across the indian ocean to Madagascar en South Africa .

While in Suva we went to the consulate of PNG and they gave us good info about the Visa's we need for PNG.

Our big question is , coming from Fiji where will be our port of entry ??? I read that most boats just sail around for a while before checking in.

Besides my question all other information about the Louisiades is welcome.

Thanks for your help and greetings from

Eelco and MIsAle FRansen aboard sv Mylady ( mysaillady.blogspot.com )

Officially, you need to check in immediately on arrival.

The best place to check in probably is Alotau (Alotau — Noonsite) Easy approach, good anchorages, plenty of shops, efficient immigration/customs staff. And it's only a hundred miles past the Louisiades.

Alternatively, you can look at at Lihir (Lihir Island — Noonsite)

I second the Alotau Milne Bay route as there is some wonderful anchorages in the Conflict Group and that area is the most stable and friendly compared to Morseby.

SV Totem may also have some relevant, up to date info. They were in PNG last year and are still in the neighbourhood.
