Getting from AU Area to South America

Hi all thats my first post,

What is the best time and good route to cross the Pacific and found myself in South America any country. I am looking for place on any commercial or private ship which will be able to take me for free to the other side of Pacific. I want to work on board in return.
The most important thing is when the biggest number if private boats go this way and from where they usually departure.
thanks

Bartosz

I am guessing here but I would say not many private yachts depart AU for South America via the Pacific (i.e. eastabout). It's hard long windward trip via the tropics and a hard slog off the wind via the Southern Ocean.

Any boat going to windward in the tropics would be leaving in the southern winter and any boat going via the Souhern Ocean would be leaving in the southern summer.

There is always somebody doing something different but most boats leaving Oz will be going west-about on the trade-wind route. Going that way you will fetch up either in Europe or the Caribbean and Panama.
