Winchrite catching fire

Has any one else experienced a Winchrite catch fire, while being charged?

How old is it and how many times has it been recharged?

Thankfully only 10 months old, so they said they will replace it. As far as recharging goes, I haven't counted, but I'd guess once a month for the last 10 months?

I don't want to start a war, but this may be more of a battery technology thing that a winch-rite thing. In short if it's a LI-PO, once in a blue moon one of those will catch fire, usually during charging. Yours at least looks like it was well contained. I used to fly a lot of model airplanes / helicopters, we learned to never charge a battery un-attended and never leave one on anything flammable like upholstery. Of course for many reasons those batteries were much more likely to catch fire

Yeah yeah. I know there's all kinds of doohickeys to make things easier. I stopped subscribing to sailing mags when Rudder went OOB. That's not literally true, but I haven't picked up a glossy sail mag in years. I am living the dream on the high seas!

As far as the battery thing, I have no idea. I posted the specs just to be helpful. Helpful is my middle name.

You're not missing much bud... 1-2 interesting or helpful articles out of a stack... rest is rehashed rubbish....

I hear of people loving these things, but not dependent on them... I've not the need...

I've never picked one up, I bet they are like the Aviation and Car mags, the Aviation ones are literally the same thing over and over again as not much new in aviation, the car mags are so biased towards the advertisers they are rubbish, plus I think they wouldn't find anything wrong with a Yugo. None of the mags will call a piece of crap, a piece of crap.

I really enjoyed Practical Sailor for years. They attempted to give you the real skinny. And Wooden Boat. And Small Boat Journal and so many others. And let me drift and include Outside, my favorite mag of all time after SeaKayaker. And Cruising World, especially back when the Groenes were aboard. Gordon and Janet Groene were another couple like the Pardeys: Amazon.com: Janet Groene: Books, Biography, Blog, Audiobooks, Kindle

Hope she's not blushing, but Janet is a poster here on cooking topics ... she wrote the book(s). They lived it and wrote about it in real time.
