We are also heading to Key West from Pensacola, we went as far as Port Charlotte Harbour and then came home for Christmas, heading back down today.

We have followed others with the "Spot", and decided to purchase one for ourselves, and will use it when we resume our trip to the Keys, back up to Marathon and over to the Bahamas. Cool tool!

Re: Spot

I have it's big brother the "In Reach"
Worked great , tracking was flawless, back up GPS
satalite text system was great, worked from the Baltic across Biscay
And all the way to the Med
I really great feature is that for a 25 dollar fee per year you keep the device
Registered but can turn airtime off and on monthly
Great piece of kit

Re: Spot

Just make sure you place it somewhere that it can see the sky, and configure it so it updates less frequently than the default or you'll burn through batteries pretty quick. I think they have a model that you can hardwire but again make sure you place it where it can talk to the satellites.

Re: Spot

Earlier this year Richard on the trawler Daunless crossed the Atlantic. He had an In Reach. I was able to follow him all the way and even send and receive text messages with him over my cell phone. It was amazing.

Re: Spot

Does it only keep the last 50 entries?

Seems good for tracking, but not as good for seeing the whole trip.
