Some great suggestions here. I am going to try the spray on the halyard routine first before taking on a more aggressive approach.

Move the boat to salt water. Not much you can do on lakes.

If you are looking for a biological control I think wasps are predators of spiders. How one gets wasps to take up residence, and learn how to live with the stroppy beggars is beyond me.
