Seriously, it looks like a really odd attempt to add a bulbous bow to a sailboat. Could that be?

Many reasons to get a Project - albeit not all of them good ones . The main one I guess is that it's the poormans financing option, and like all financing works out more expensive than paying cash upfront. Don't work so well if you are leaving next week, but fair enuf if your timescale is in years anyway (even if boat was good to go today).

........and maybe some folks are simply too fussy to settle on a Beneteau ....I bet yours does not have one of those in the picture .

Gotta give him credit for actually doing something. Many of us here would never atempt such a thing, mainly for lack of skill but also out of concern for what others might think. Its my understanding that the bulb is meant to brake up the bow wave and reduce fuel burn at a set speed. Maybe thats just a 1/16 scale model, of his future backyard tanker.

Reaction drive.

Bacon saver.

Gear linkage drops off single lever control entering slip.

Blast of astern power turns out to be 'full ahead both'.

Hit panic button.

Problem solved.

That's a 100 lb propane tank complete with valve. I think this boat is really a large BBQ or a seaside restaurant.

Could it be possible he just used that tank to bung up a really big hole? (Keep it clean)
