I draw attention to my first paragraph in post 2.

I always expected it was a troll, but the definitions may help someone else, and I reckon it is a lot better to waste time helping other people, than waste time being a prat

Is this thread for real or some version of the reverse Nigerian 401 scam?
Just hold onto the checkbook and I think this one is safe. OK, no bank account numbers shall be posted too. I'll add it to the rules later on. Apologies to those Nigerians not yet convicted of a criminal offense.

A little sailing trivia is all healthy and above free board.

FWIW, Troll would be bridge related not boating related question. It's a shore problem - honest.

The reverse Nigerian 401 or 419 scam is where the potential sucker plays along and gets the scammer to do all sorts of crazy things to prove that they're bonafide.

Welcome to the 419 Eater

Aloha,
For whatever reason. I appreciate the questions. We've got some good answers. I'd been sailing more than 40 years and on the water for 50 and never heard of a prodder. Bowsprit, yes, prodder no, but then again I'm an old monohull sailor. Composite usually means graphite or kevlar or a combination of fiberglass and graphite and other exotic materials laminated to make up the material the "prodder" is made of.
Freedom yachts started using composite materials for their masts and booms years ago and I guess they were successful. There are a couple issues with composites and the main one being cost. There are also composite hulls on several boats. I think Farr is one.
FDB12 seems to have been reading about catamarans to have come to ask these particular questions. Good questions by the way.
Kind regards,
JohnL

Thanks, SkiperJohn I appreciate your answer. I've indeed come to those questions in the course of reading about catamarans. - That 'composite' relates to the mixture of material used is entirely reasonable. In consequence, I'll drop my notion that it refers to adding and substracting parts of a pole, making it longer or smaller.

Well, once more, I cannot help the appearance of trolling.
Perhaps the questions are ridiculous. Granted. But even then they are wholly serious. - Well, I hope someone will help me sort trough with this. As I pointed out, there are still terms left I cannot make out and will post very soon.

Thanks again, Talbot, for your efforts. I'm sorry if my thanks have been expressed too enthusiastically and thus were responsible for creating the impression of trolling. - But enough of this. I think it's a poor sign of the degree of hospitality in a forum if anyone 'from the outside', lacking proper knowledge of the material discussed there and suitability of choice of vocabulary, stumbles into a general suspicious atmosphere, trolls being smelled everywhere.

Hey, is that anothe catamaran thing?
Never heard of it.
I could ask if that's and Indian or Asian Targar with 4 stripey legs but then I'd just be having a bout of humor.
Kind regards,
JohnL

fardownbelow12, it would be nice if you would let us know a bit about yourself. Where are you located, what is your boating experience, how did you come to have an interest in cruising, what are your sailing dreams - that kind of thing. Most people who come to this Forum first post to the Meets & Greets Forum. It helps members to have a better understanding of the people they are "talking to" who are posting here. It also gives the membership the opportunity to properly welcome new members. Thanks.
