Set the Chimes on a Winding Clock

Our Sailing Club has an old Seth Thomas nautical clock on the wall. It is a winding model (two springs to wind) and chimes on the hour/half hour (watch times)
What happens is the clock chimes one hour early (2 bells at 8 o'clock)
How does one synchronize the chimes to the time?

This is an older clock (1960's or 70's)
Seth Thomas manual wind clock, two springs - winders? , chimes on the watch, 8 bells at 0000, 0400, etc

I am a former USCG BM2, a former QM and navy ET can not figgure how to adjust

Well something I can add too..hehehehe....I bought my ex one of the seth thomas mantle clocks..its about 200 years old and it had a similar problem....i tried and tried to fix this and come to find out it is best to just bring it to someone who works on them..After I messed with it some it ended up costing me around 300 bucks to get it all tuned up.But this clock was made alot different than the one you have.Good luck.

Synchronizing chime with time (clock strikes wrong hour):
On most clocks, the hour hand is a friction fit on its shaft, and may be moved around to point to the hour that the clock just struck.

That is correct. Move the hour hand to match the chime, then stop it untill the correct time, then restart it. I have about 25 of these clocks hung in my home. Something got a little out of hand at some point in my life.

I also found the answer on the "net" One point made was when advancing the hands, wait at each striking time, let the clock chime then move on.

We got the clock set and chiming properly.

That is correct for setting the time. Don't forget the half hour. On many newer clocks, it's not necessary but if you don't know for sure, stop and let it chime or strike.

Correcting the time, as above, just move the hour hand, it's a press fit.

Never move the minute hand backwards.
