Serious Rowing Dinghy

I am looking at getting a dinghy that can be a serious rowing boat such as the Loudon, Whitehall, Gig Boats, etc. This would be for exercise as well as pleasure, but I also want one stable enough and with enough load capacity to serve as a working dinghy for a cruising boat.

Any suggestions?

Have you looked at the Loudon, Whitehall, or Gig Boats?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I know you were just having some fun GordMay, but to clarify, I have no experience with any of those boats, nor do I know anyone who has one. All I have is their promotional information, which with many products is, shall we say, sometimes a bit exaggerated. What I am asking is whether anyone has any hands on experience with these or other boats that actually are great rowboats for purposes of getting a great work out and are also serviceable dinghies.

Re: Serious Rowing Dinghy

Did anyone find a good rowing dinghy? I found this one with a sliding seat and is convertible to a sailboat. A bit pricey, though, and it is 12' long so you would need ample foredeck space for passages.

I have a walker bay 8. It rows and sails quite well. The only maintenance is scrubbing it with soap and water every now and again.

Re: Serious Rowing Dinghy

Take a look at Trinka built by Mark Johannson in Vero Beach Florida. These are stunning little boats. Available as 8, 10 or 12 foot.

I think between Rebel Heart's recommendation for Walker Bay and my mention of the Trinka, we've covered the price spectrum!

You said Gig boats. Are you talking Gig Harbor boats? One of my marina neighbors has one and it is beyond awesome. Rows and sails beautifully. 10′ Navigator :: Gig Harbor Boat Works
