Hey Blue, I actually wanted to come back and hammer you for a couple of those comments but the dude (one of the moderators) convinced me it's best to try to live in harmony with your fellow man (and your environment) which is all I think ole Jonah was attempting to do.

Yepper. I expected worse. I've been "modded" nicely many times so I know the drill. I think several of you guys got caught up in the adventure aspect of the story, overlooking the pins and shackles. For me, the something-for-nothing angle turned me as sour as a grapefruit.

Thread drift alert: I know an ex Parris Island drill instructor. At least I think he was. He has a great big tattoo that says so. You know he has to be one tough jarhead to walk around with that!

My favorite marine is Joe Pike, a "fictional" character in R. Crais novels. In second place is USMC Sniper Carlos Hathcock.

And by the way, how are things in Pensacola? I raced catamarans there for 12 years while I was working there. Plus at Ft Walton and Panama City, and Ocean Springs, MS. And at Juana's in September. It was fun stuff and tough with the quality of sailors you had to race against.

Dude you missed the whole point entirely had you read the article, I cant even believe that you would stand up for this guy, he should be at work supporting his 2 year old. The guys is a mooch and people had to go through an ordeal to get him taken care of when he will sure as hell go back and do it again. Florida has mandates not favorable to sailors because of people like this, there is a bigger picture.


As for Pensacola everything is great, not as sunny and warm as the rest of Florida but everything is doing well. Wanting to actually get farther south to be honest but who doesn't lol.

What ordeal... two people wade maybe knee deep to help him stand up/collect his gear... Shock.. Horror...

I will take back my opinion of what people did for him as being and ordeal, I'm wrong quite often and being a good Samaritan is very much a virtue, but all of this was unnecessary and he seems to be one who uses people to take care of his needs and has little consideration for people other than himself living on handouts and obviously not providing for his daughter. Everyone here has an opinion on his actions and its great that it wasn't worse because this kind of behavior can put lives etc in jeopardy. All around he has been irresponsible and here we go with my opinion again, but if anyone can defend this guy that makes me question the integrity of those individuals. Unlike those who appose me I'm not going to make crass remarks on a discussion forum, I think that's ill mannered and doesn't belong here.

As with most stuff in the media these days "the rest of the story" probably was not told in the article. Reporters are very good at sensationalizing things to keep readers and viewers on the edge of their chair.

The sailor in the story is not really any worse than these highly trained professionals that probably got more money and better equipment

What do you mean by "option" you disagree with?

You might want to keep in mind that you can usually gain knowledge from most anyone if he has experiences that you do not.
