Sailboaters Stereotype

What do you think of sailboaters stereotype of being a bunch of wind robbing vagabond rag baggers?

Stick boaters, puff boaters, blow boaters, take your pick. We have been called worse but salt spray thickens the skin.

Re: Sailboaters Stereotype

At our marina the sailors are year round boaters and the power boaters go hide when the temps get below 70 F and don't come around untill late April. We see this type of power boaters as mentally handy caped due to cool weather.

Re: Sailboaters Stereotype

From the general public's perspective, I think some are intimidated falsely thinking they are all rich or snooty or both. "Snotty yachtie" is a derogatory term I have heard more than once. It would be nice if sailors did things to end that usually false perception.

To quote a trenchant observation, which you might recognize; “... Most boaters, regardless of their pedigree, have a love for the ocean and its bounty. As an adder, sailors are a very, very tough lot ...”

Re: Sailboaters Stereotype

Two types - neither of which you wanna spend too much time around:

- Braggard, self indigent and righteous, always have an opinion, yet fail miserably themselves based on their "experience", and 90% of the time drinking and out of shape.

- Pious, deeply religious, tie their knots quietly and methodically and boring to tears.

Moral: Forget the sailors...JUST GO SAILING!!!

Ah sailors. The only men I know of that have bent booms with their heads.

I think they're after something. Otherwise, why all the flattery?

Re: Sailboaters Stereotype

my friends refer derogatorily to liveaboard-at-anchor types (like myself) as "sea carnies".
