Angry Overkill

Am I the only one that is totally turned off by all of the posts that I don't want to have to wade thru to find the couple of topics that I like. I use "new posts" and get page after page of stuff (even after 24 hours) almost all of which I could care less about. I know that I could go to each forum that I actually might have an interest in separately but "lazy" is my middle name.

How about a profile option that lets me pick the forums I want and excludes the others when I hit "new posts."

Does anyone else feel this way?

All that does is give me a list of forums. I am not finding a place that says Don't ever want to read that>

Re: Overkill

Use the advanced search function on the the topic of your particular interest. If you do not know how to do that, PM GordMay who is the "Guru of Search" for instruction. Note, however, "...if ya' really want Pearls, ya' gotta' open a lotta Oysters..." as my great granfather would often say.

You can ignore any sub forums you want to - it's in your buttons somewhere .

Me has a couple of them on permanent ignore - really tidies the "new posts" thing up

If you go each forum indvidually you also use the Forum Tools drop down button to select "Ignore Forum"........and you don't need to do that every time you visit!

yes, apparently.

Even without advanced tools, it's dead easy to find what interests you and ignore the rest.

The fact that you might accidentally see stuff you weren't looking for (and maybe even find something new to learn about) is a feature, not a bug.

You can ignore the whole forum if it is not an area that interest you.

Another good tool is to prescribe to "tags" that interest you eg buckets

CF can be customised to a high degree.

Have a play around with the tools in user CP.

DoJ has the right answer below.

This is the best way to ignore a complete forum of topics.

Here is my "basic" forum strategy -

- First ignore forums I am sure I don't want to read - Actually I think the only one I am ignoring is "Open CPN" - if I ever use it this will be an invaluable resource but not necessary at present.

- Then I select "Quick Links" - "Subscribed Threads" - If you post in a thread you automatically get subscribed to it. If you do not want to post but want to follow it - while viewing the posts find the "Thread Tools" selection then "Subscribe to Thread" - This thread will now show in the "Subscribed Threads" list and is a great way to follow a thread topic.

- After ignoring forums and checking my subscribed threads I then select "New Posts" - I usually find the first "Crew Listing" and click on the far right column (the "in forum" column) - then I scan the listings for anything that may turn out to be amusing. If I don't see anything I select "Forum Tools" - "Mark Forum Read" - this marks every thread in that forum as "no longer new" - then I do the same for classifieds. Be careful if you are at the very top level - the entire forum gets marked read.

By the third time I select "new posts" all the ignored forums, marked read classifieds and marked read crew listings no longer appear and the days list of new threads is usually 3 pages long.

I scan titles and pick and choose.

There are a couple of forums that I go to specifically as they are special interest areas. However I could actually Subscribe to a forum and get them all - however I don't read everything in the "special interest" forums so I don't do that.

Managing the info on CF is critical - I don't think anyone can read it all...
