Monitor Air Vane dimensions

I have a Monitor, but it is missing the airvane. Anyone know the correct standard and light air vane dimensions? Thanks.

Id suggest you buy the "Airvane Kit" direct from Scanmar. You get the light and heavy weather vanes for $130.00. Much more sensitive and durable than something cobbled at home. I keep the homemade set as spares but it looks as if the Scanmar set would last a lifetime. I put a couple thousand miles on last season and they are like new.

Thanks Smokester. I must have looked at their website 2 dozen times and never saw that there is a manual. Duh.

If your going to make one sanibel, I would suggest the larger one. I have the smaller one and I have needed the bigger one even up here in the PNW, where we use a ball and chain for wind direction....
I have heard rumor that some people have halfway circumnavigated before they even knew there was a smaller one...

Looks like the big one is made of hollow core polycarbonate sheeting which is used around here for hurricane shutters, should be easy to find. Very light and stiff.

Not for a Monitor but made a lightweight blade for my vane. Went to a commercial plastics company and had them cut 4' X 8" sections of 1/4" corrugated plastic. The same stuff that Monitor uses for the light air vane. Don't remember what it cost but it wasn't anywhere near what Monotor supplied and I got 4 pieces instead of one. Used a saber saw to notch the plastic to fit the vane mount.

For anyone who might find this thread. We did a circumnavigation and only used the big vane. It bends very impressively in 40+ knots but I never felt it might break. When the winds got up I was impressed with the idea of taking off the big one (have to luff it into the cockpit) and putting the little one on. And yes they are corrugated polycarbonate.
