Jib changing tips in high winds?

We need to change our 150 jib out for our 75.
Any tips on getting the 150 safely to the deck?
Winds will be 13 mph.

Why did your rigger want you to depower your rig so much if you have roller furling?

I always suggested to my crew that they tie a bowline to my left ankle. They claim they'd rather lose me than the sail, though.

from pictures on the internet looks like your boat is double head sail rig so your rigger is probably thinking better to go with jib and staysail than a single large headsail if you are going out in the real world offshore. For me, a 150% genoa is a sail for daysailing in areas that normally get light winds. Way too big for the open ocean where winds will usually be around Force 4 or even 5 in the trades. That big a sail furled to what the conditions dictate will be a very poor shaped sail and probably ruined because of too much stress from the wind. Think going with a 75% jib is probably too small a headsail for all around conditions, however. Would think a 100% jib on roller furling in conjunction with the staysail would be a better sail combination. Enough sail area to keep you moving in lighter conditions and still a decent shape when furled down some in heavier winds. Might want to talk with a sailmaker and get their opinion, however.

As far as lowering the sail, just do it. Have someone on the sheet to pull the sail inside the life lines as it's being lowered. Here's where life line netting earns it's keep. Be sure the halyard is flaked out so it will run free as you drop the sail

I hate to use the word never, but I will. Never undo your tack wire, sheets or halyard, until about 99% of the sail is stuffed into the bag. That way if something goes wrong your sail is still attached at 3 points. I dont understand why you would go from a 150 to what is almost a storm jib , in 13mph of wind, but it is probably good to practice in light winds, so you get the method down pat. Do you have any sail between the 150, and the 75???? Good Luck. _____Grant.

It may not be 75, may be 90. Not 100% sure.
We will be in winds up to 25knots.

It went super easy. I kept the sail luffing inside the lifelines while the girls dropped it.
